Sometimes the best matches are the ones that almost happened. Long before we officially met, our paths nearly crossed more than once, but somehow we were never introduced. Despite having so many mutual friends, it’s still hard to believe we had never crossed paths.

In early summer 2023, we were both considering moving to New York City in search of new career opportunities and a bigger dating pool. In the end, we both decided to stay—without realizing that the person we had been looking for was already closer than we thought. A few months later, Hinge brought us together, and we matched in October 2023.

Jake’s Hinge profile made one thing clear: he wasn’t looking for a pen pal—he wanted to skip the endless messaging and just grab a drink. Sami agreed, and our first real conversation happened face-to-face at the bar at Giuseppe & Sons. From the moment we met, conversation came easily, and we quickly realized there was something special there.

 

Since then, we’ve loved doing everything together—and nothing at all. From our first trip as a couple to Newport, Rhode Island, to eating our way through new Philly restaurants, to quiet nights at home, we’ve loved creating memories together and appreciating the little moments along the way.

 

On a frigid Monday in March, Jake proposed at Washington Square Park. Sami had no idea what was happening and thought they were heading to a double date that never happened. Even with an upside-down ring box, she said yes! It’s only fitting that exactly four years after our first date, on the very same day, we’ll say “I do.” We can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with all of our favorite people on October 30, 2027.
